New series

I have begun a new series. This series combines the traditional realistic male figurative work I have been doing with a concept I played with last year in a series of seemingly abstract works. In the “abstract” works, I was inspired during a bus ride home from the airport on a rainy night. There was a small gap between the two sun shields/visors the driver users and I could see the wet reflections of the head and tail lights on the pavement through this long narrow gap. I began a series of painting representing this gap and the reflections. The images were realistic based on my experience but appeared abstract to the viewer. In the new series, I am taking the concept of the gap and applying it to the figurative work as a voyeuristic view of my figurative images. As in the first piece, The Scarf, seen here, the figure appears exposed through an opening in a neutrally colored wall. You get a glimpse of the figure as though this is what is seen when passing by. It evokes mystery and surprise.

All of the works in the series will be acrylic on canvas and all will be 48 inches (4 feet) in height. All will have neutral panels on either side of the figure or face. They will all be either 24 inches (2 feet), 36 inches (3 feet) and possibly 48 inches (4 feet) in width. There are currently about 10 to 12 paintings planned and more may be added later. The second painting in the series is currently under way and is 36 inches wide. The painting below is 24 inches wide.
